Thaumaturgy
General Rules
A Thaumaturge gains a certain number of rituals for every level of Thaumaturgy he buys in his primary path. This is determined by the below charts.
| Total Number of Rituals of this Level | |||||
| Primary Path Score | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
| 1 | 1 | ||||
| 2 | 3 | 1 | |||
| 3 | 6 | 3 | 1 | ||
| 4 | 10 | 6 | 3 | 1 | |
| 5 | 15 | 10 | 6 | 3 | 1 |
(This table is determined by an arithmatic progression. In other words: [fn(N) = fn(N-1) + N] and [fn(1) = 1])
| Number of Rituals Gained at Each Level | |||||
| Primary Path Score | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
| 1 | 1 | ||||
| 2 | 2 | 1 | |||
| 3 | 3 | 2 | 1 | ||
| 4 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | |
| 5 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
(Note: this chart says exactally the same thing as the other one, it just shows what you gain when you buy a given level in your primary path, as oposed to the first chart which shows the total number or rituals you have at each level in the primary path.)
A Thaumaturge gains a free number of rituals at each level so that the total number of free rituals he or she has is equal to the number on the chart for each ritual level.
Example: An Assimite has Focued Mind as their primary path, at level 2. They currently have three level 1 rituals and one level 2 ritual. When they buy Focused Mind at level 3 they gain three level 1 rituals, two level 2 rituals and one level three rituals, so they now have a total of six level 1 rituals, thre level 2 rituals, and one level three ritual.
If a Thaumaturge wants to buy aditional rituals above these limits they may spend one point of experience for each level of the ritual.
Example:a level 3 ritual costs three experience points. A level 4 ritual costs four experience points.All of the above assumes that the Thaumaturge has books to study from. If the character is inventing their own rituals they must take more time and spend more experience. If the Thaumaturge is inventing rituals to be part of their "free" rituals at each level of Thaumaturgy they must spend the ritual's level in experience points. If the Thaumaturge is inventing rituals beyond the "free" rituals they must spend twice the ritual's level in experience points.
Example: A Thaumaturge with a three in their primary path and two book learned level 2 rituals wants to invent a new ritual at level 2. They spend two experience points to invent the ritual. Now the same Thaumaturge wants to invent another level 2 ritual. They new must spend four experience points. If they then wish to learn a level 2 ritual from a book they must spend two experience points. Finally, if they then want to invent a level 2 ritual they must again spend four experience points. At the end of all this the Thaumaturge has three booklearned level 2 rituals and three invented level 2 rituals.
